Arts ~ Ateneum.

Hello Helsinki! Loving every minute here. It’s not even that cold for the winter season. Today, I visited the Ateneum Art Museum.

The major exhibition on display is a selection of works by Amedeo Modigliani. The total of 83 elegant paintings, sculptures and paper prints explore diverse aspects of Modigliani’s lifestyle in Paris. There’s a recurring specific style featured in the portraits. I noticed the almond-shaped eyes and lovely long necks of the subjects. All of the pieces convey how Modigliani created his own aesthetic in the art world which has helped to influence today’s art and fashion.

Also, the gallery on Stories of Finnish Art illustrates the progression of art in the country from 1809 to the 1970s. One can see the development of art from marvelous masterpieces of paintings, sculptures, letters, postcards and photography by artists including Anitra Lucander, Unto Pusa, Ulla Rantanen and Sam Vanni.

It was an afternoon well spent learning about an area of visual art and culture. Highly recommend x
